Ghanaian Xylophone Instructor – Aaron

The only child born to his parents in the early 70s in the Village of Babile- Tanchara in the Lawra district of the upper West Region of Ghana, he showed great enthusiasm for music at an early age. Bebe would trace the sound of the Gyil the wooden xylophone played in this area of Ghana (West Africa), to wherever it was played as he was told by his parents. He was enrolled in the Tanchara-Kunnyuokuo primary and middle schools where he was educated from 1979-1989. He used to play in the school’s cultural group as one of the lead xylophonists. Upon completing school he was brought down to the south to the capital city Accra, by his paternal uncle in the same year and in 1992 he began working for the music Department school of performing Arts, University of Ghana, Legon as a xylophone instructor.

He took the opportunity to continue his own studies and attempted the general certificate of education (GCE) Ordinary Level In 1996 under the auspices of the West Africa Examination council. He joined the Hewale sound a Neo-traditional group at the international Centre for Africa music and Dance under the directorship of the Emeritus professor J H Kwabena Nketia while still with music Department as the master xylophonist from 1996-2003. During his working with Hewale sound, the group traveled extensively to many parts of the World including the United States of America, Norway, South Africa and Jordan in the Middle East.Aaron is the co-founder and leader of the Local Dimension Band based at the music Department school of performing Arts University of Ghana, Legon.
